Smyrna, Georgia Speed Traps
Spring Road (Near Argyle Elementary School)
Motorcycle Cops stand in the vacant parking lot across from the small shopping strip with the Subway and Hot Wings place catching east bound traffic. There are typically 3 or 4 of them. Spring Road is a long straight stretch. It is easy to go faster than the 45mph posted especially if you hit all the lights on green. When school is starting or letting out the speed limit drops to 25mph and the cops are there to catch you. Their trick is to catch you after you have passed the school and starting to pick speed again. That is when they get you.
Campbell Road (between Spring Rd & Atlanta Rd)
Cops pick different places on this road to sit. It is short but there is a school at either end. Since it is a shortcut people have a tendency to go faster than the 35mph posted. From the Spring Road side, look for motorcycle and cruisers. They hide in the subdivision entrances and walk out in the middle of the street to stop you. (I glanced down for a second and nearly ran over one. LOL!) There is one stop sign on this road. They like to sit there as well for people that do not come to a complete stop. From the stop sign headed on towards Atlanta Road, look for the cruisers sitting on the side streets on the right.
Old concord rd.
when it is pretty outside you can expect to see motorcycle police just writing saftely beat tickets left and right at this 4 way stop on Old concord rd, just down from powder springs road. Usually in the mornings around 9:00a.m.
Cumberland Parkway SE between Cumberland BVD & My. Wilkinson
If you are coming from the Vinings are headed towards The Cumberland Mall, the speed trap is set up in the big dip right near Post Crest Apartments. The speed limit is 35, but since this is a long downhill stretch, even WITH cruise control cars are going faster than that. Police are standing in the middle lane with radar gun and other police on the scene will waive over lines of cars.
Ridge Road
Usually motorcycle and squad car backup. Located after Cedar Cliffs Drive SE. Usually Tues. between 11:00am-1:00pm.
