Suwanee, Georgia Speed Traps

This is a 2 lane (each direction) extension to Satellite Boulevard between Suwanee and Buford probably a couple of miles in length. Posted speed limit is 45mph but most traffic drives through here at approx 60mph. The traps can be anywhere along this stretch of road and at anytime. At the end of 2007 and into 2008 police activity here has skyrocketed.

Be very careful between Sugarloaf Parkway and Peachtree Industrial Boulevard. There’s a patrol car parked up or down the hill, north or south bound. He will ticket you without blinking an eye. Suwanee is " very quota" driven.

Going on McGinnis Ferry Road from Satellite Blvd to Buford Highway, officers will either park car in the median before the Buford Highway light or in the bushes on the right, at the bottom of the hill, just after bridge. The speed limit there is 45mph and they usually stop people going over 50mph coming over the bridge. They are normally present during rush hours (morning, lunchtime and evening) and all days during month end. A similar trap exists at the same location going in the opposite direction too. Bottomline is that one should be cautious on McGinnis Ferry Road between Satellite Blvd and Peachtree Industrial Blvd.

There is an officer at the intersection of McGinnis Ferry road and Buford Hwy. He leaps into traffic and provides you with a ticket…so slow down or he will get you. Yikes!

As you cross Suwanee Creek, there are two small side roads with older ’50’s housing. They will be in one of the two side roads to the right before Buford Hwy (Hwy 23). Remember Suwanee City Hall is right off the intersection of Hwy 23 and Lawrenceville-Suwanee Road. This is an easy site for them to go to and they are there often – especially in the mornings. If it is a sunny day and in the AM, they will be there or on the other side of the road near Smithtown Road. The fines in Suwanee are the highest by a large margin in Gwinnett County. For a divided highway, 45mph is totally unrealistic, especially since both speed traps are right after a large hill.
