Hwy 68 – West of downtown Tennille – (aka.Short 68)

Tennille, GeorgiaSep 15, 20100 Comments

This speed trap is near the intersection of Tennille-Oconee Rd and Hwy 68; known as ‘short 68’ or ‘Golf course road’ by the locals. The officers will sit between the Tennille-Oconee Rd intersection and the Tennille city outskirts on a section of roadway that is in a 45 mph zone and shoot radar up to 3/10 of a mile away into a 35 mph zone that is not even in clear view and on a slight curve and try to lock in radar speeds just as motorists are leaving the 35 mph zone at the curve area and entering the posted 45 mph zone. Motorists think that they are able to travel 45 mph in this area at the point where they are being clocked but the law officers pull them over and write tickets stating that they were in a 35 mph zone making it possible for the officers to write tickets for speeds over 10 mph because the officers say the motorists were in the 35 mph zone when they were clocked.
Example: If you think you are going 46 mph in a 45 mph zone; YOU are NOT on their clock. They state you are going 46 mph in a 35 mph zone and are able to write a ticket for 11 mph over the speed limit…. not 1 mph over.

*note* – Officers are clocking people within 100 feet of the transition signs that go from 35 mph to 45 mph, so if you read the sign and it says: 45 mph speed limit – don’t believe it because it’s not true in Tennille, Ga.

They have their own speed code book here — BEWARE!

Also *note* – Tennille has a higher rate of tickets fines vs the legal rates stated in the Ga codes 40-6-1

Speed limit signs go from 35 to 45 to 55 in less than a quarter of a mile. Tennille police regularly sit by the 55mph sign with a radar gun.

Tennille Police almost always sit at this point and await incoming and outgoing motorists at this point. If not there, then they will be at the GA DOT office slightly South of this point. There is also heavy patrol on Hwy 15 at the city limits near the Sandersville side North of Tennille as well. The small town has a large patrol staff and does not wavier on writing tickets.
