Thunderbolt, Georgia Speed Traps
US Highway 80/Victory Drive near River Drive
The city of Thunderbolt is basically a 2-mile stretch of Victory Drive on the east end of Savannah with a speed limit of 35 mph. The local police drive back and forth on US 80 (Victory) looking for speeders, which are not hard to find since the huge hill coming off the Wilmington River bridge tends to cause a sharp increase in the speed of your car. City limits are clearly marked, so be sure you tap your brakes to keep from getting struck by the Thunderbolt!
River Drive near Victory Drive/ Hwy. 80
Everyone living on the islands near Savannah must travel thru this small town, they will pull you over for looking at them funny. They will hide at night with no lights on under the trees.
W. Victory Drive near Bridge
The speed limit is 45 mph all the way through Wilmington Island, but over the bridge you hit Thunderbolt and it drops to 35 mph for about 100 yds then goes back to 40 mph for 25 yds outside the city limit and back to 45 mph thereafter into Savannah.
HWY 80 Thunderbolt Brige / Victory Dr. Bridge
Thunderbolt ( a city between Savannah and Savannah, kinda pointless) hides in the bushes over the bridge and nail people usually during evening rush hour or late evening. Although I have seen them there at all hours of the day.
US80 just east of Thunderbolt bridge
K band radar from stationary patrol car. They park with lights out on the left side of the road at the west entrance to Isle of Armstrong which is just over the Thunderbolt bridge. They use instant on radar and wiat until you are within 200-300 feet. They are well hidden by the entrance sign to the Island. White Ford partol cars. Speed limit is 45 but they don’t seem to be interested in anyone going under 60mph, most of the time.
