Tyrone, Georgia Speed Traps

tyrone views their police dept as a revenue producing machine. If you travel through tyrone enough times you WILL get a ticket.

Tyrone police and Peachtree City police patrol with radar on continually.

This town used to really be a problem, it has scaled back somewhat since a newspaper article put them in the top 10 speed traps in Ga. Cars:Late Model Crown Vics 98+ are dark blue, they still have a few 95+ models that are painted silver. Radar:MPH BEE36 K band, Kustom Golden Eagle Ka. They also have/may have a Kustom K band unit I haven’t been able to positivly ID. Speed limits:Highest in town 2 lane limit is 45, in most areas its 35-40.

Note that two roads going into this town that lead in from Coweta county are posted at 45 and 55, then both drop to 40 once you cross into their town. Highest multilane limit is 55, on hwy 74. School zones are marked well, flashing lights at the start of the zone. Beware of the 45 MPH school zone on 74, the school itself is 1/2 mile down another road, this zone was most likely added to pick off speeders on a road that should be marked for 60-65. They run the radar very haphazardly, they do not establish a tracking history whatsoever. I was recently clocked pulling away from a red light…I had barely made it to 35mph before I was blasted with some K band. Even though they are not as active as they used to be, they are extremely unforgiving. The judge can and will allow the cop to read canned testimony, and evidently doesn’t expect the cop to know anything about the radar, except he can turn it on, and make a half wild guess about what it is picking up. The cops DO NOT know cosine, batching, the range or beamwidth of the radars they are using. Make sure you testify on your behalf to validate these terms and info as the prosecutor treats these things like a murder case almost.
