Warwick, Georgia Speed Traps

Window tinting violations are their latest targets. They then search your entire vehicle and often tow the vehicle to ensure additional charges. The Police Chief of Warwick was fired 7-25-2014 for acting “independently” of the city’s by-laws. It appears he was placing quotas on his officers as well. Maybe this will reduce the number of tickets written and the constant presence of 2-3 officers trying to reach their quota. The recent bad reputation of Warwick was well deserved, but maybe things will change and motorists can again pass through without being harassed.

When heading north be aware of the speed change from 55 to 45. The local PD loves to sit in the middle of the road or off to the side of the road (just past the 500 foot distance of the speed limit change as required by law in Georgia) in the apartments or various other hiding spots but yet still visible if you know where to look. For the south bound folks they tend to sit in the parking lot of the local gas station a shoot radar. I have never encountered laser in the area they have always used radar. But they are almost always there as it is a money maker for this one horse town.

Not a speed trap a trumped up charge to write tickets for anything, our family was coming back from a wonderful day at Chehaw Park on our way home. My husband pulled into the gas station to check the hood of his truck because it seemed loose, all of a sudden a police office pulled behind us with his lights on. MInd you we were already parked… he came to us and said roll up your window halfway and told us our tint on the truck was too dark…now.. We have had this truck for years and “never” in any state or county have we had issues or problems for this. It took the police officer 20 minutes to check the license and of course print the ticket. While the kids my husband and I sweltered in 90 degree heat with windows down. We watched 4 police officers on the same stretch of road by the gas station pull over 4-5 other cars for the same reason. We now have a nice ticket compliments of Warwick GA to pay and I can tell you we will NEVER go through this town ever again!!!

Warwick denies that it’s a speedtrap, but when you’re heading into town from Albany and go around the small curve, they’ll be sitting in the medium every afternoon religiously. They also favor the spot at Rubo’s and an old closed gas station at the Hwy. 313 junction. 60 Minutes could have a field day with this bunch. Let’s put it this way, if Warwick isn’t a speed trap, there isn’t a cow in Texas. Do not exceed 45 mph through this town, period.

I have a cabin outside this town and visit 3 or 4 times a year. I get so mad that the State and County for allowing this abuse of power. Everyday alot of people are pulled over, cars searched, tickets galore. I had a business in this town 15 years ago and they only had 2 officers. They worked from 6 pm to 6 am to watch the town, I now hear they have 15 officers 24hrs a day for this speed trap of a town with little or no revenue.
