State Highway GA 300 near Small Town

Warwick, GeorgiaSep 18, 20070 Comments

A local cop usually hides on a parking lot on either side of GA 300 as it goes through Warwick. Speed Limit is 45 mph. I have gone through at 55 mph and he does not give chase. However, go 56 mph and he’s on you. I’d say he’s there 6 out of 10 times that I have driven through and almost at any time of day and sometimes at night.

Watch out for this town if traveling on GA 300. I was stopped traveling on a tour bus for going 10 over and have known others stopped for the same speed in the posted 45mph area. I have not seen anyone stopped on the other side of the smoak bridge away from warwick but have seen cops on that side. I’ve only seen cops out during the day but they could very well be out at least during the early evening. This is just another example of cops abusing the speeding laws to bring home the bacon.

City cop hides behind a church on the west side of GA 300 just south of the Warwick city limit. The speed limit goes from 55 to 45 just north of this location. However, you really do not need to be speeding to be pulled over. Expect to be stopped for improper placement of tag decals, loud mufflers, tinted windows, odd hubcaps, etc. Be very careful when passing through this bump in the road.

The town is very poor with little source of revenue. Besides stopping cars that are actually speeding, at least one police officer stops people who may be slightly over the speed limit (50 mph in the 45 mph zone) and accuse them of driving at outrageously high speeds, e.g., he stopped a car going 50 and told the driver that he clocked him at 81 mph. When the driver demanded to be shown this on the radar, the officer could not do it. Instead, he beat two pieces of metal together, which, obviously, affected the radar system, and he finally got it to read 75, after it first read 35 and 55. So, after accusing the driver of going 81, he gave him a ticket for driving 75. Ovbiously, he did not want to get a lesser reading by beating on his pieces of metal. On another occasion, he stopped a couple driving 45 mpg and accused them of driving 60. They had their cruise control set on 45 mph because they heard this was a speed trap. If this has happened twice to people who live in different towns 140 miles apart, it must go on all the time.
