Makakilo Drive

Aiea, HawaiiNov 10, 20091 Comments

Squad car will usually wait in the driveway of the Fire Station (city property so legal to do); lasers drivers going up and down Makakilo drive, but mostly those going downhill as the steep descent makes even bicycles go faster than the posted 35mph. I mostly see them at night, especially late hours when they seem to have nothing else to do. Can be difficult to see them as it’s a bit of a curve and some bushes.

Moanalua freeway Ewa bound as you pass the Kahuapaani St (Halawa Heights Road) overpass the freeway will split with two lanes heading towards Aiea/Pearlridge and two lanes towards Pearl City/Waipahu. As you enter the lanes heading toward Pearl City/Waipahu, it will immediately go into a right hand bend. HPD solo bikes can be found parked on the right shoulder as you come out of the bend. They are usually there on any given day of the week during the night time hours starting at around 8 p.m. until the early morning hours. Watch your speed as you approach the Kahuapaani St overpass and into the lanes heading Ewa towards Pearl City/Waipahu as the speed limit in that area is 50 mph.

Interstate Moanalua Freeway H201 near Ala Kupuna Street overpass top of Red Hill Street

Aiea, HawaiiSep 01, 20080 Comments

Moanalua Freeway (H201) Ewa bound as you pass the Ala Kupuna Street overpass coming down from Red Hill, one or two HPD solo bikes are usually parked on the left shoulder of the freeway before you cross the H3 and head towards the Kahuapaani Street (Halawa Heightd Road) overpass. They can be spotted there at around 7:30 p.m., late night, and early morning hours on any given day of the week. HPD figures that most drivers will be on the look out for them on the right shoulder of the freeway after you cross the H3, so they decide to fool you by parking on the left shoulder and before you cross the H3. Two HPD solo bikes have been spotted on the left shoulder of this area at around 1:15 a.m. on 09-01-2008 and on previous ocassions. Speed limit in this area is 50 mph but you can easily go past that since you are coming downhill on the freeway from Red Hill. Watch your speed as you pass the Ala Kupuna Street (top of Red Hill) overpass heading ewa bound and coming downhill approaching H3.

US Highway Moanalua near Aloha Stadium

Aiea, HawaiiJun 18, 20081 Comments

When you are entering Moanalua Freeway, just when you are approaching Aloha Stadium (the stadium will be to your right) the patrol officer is usually hiding on the left behind a wall with the radar. This is where most cars from Aiea and Pearl Ridge area are entering Moanalua Freeway and even though it looks like you are on the freeway, the 50 speed limit is not yet allowed until you are past all the merges.
