Nimitz Highway onramp to H-1 Westbound

Honolulu, HawaiiMar 08, 20130 Comments

Traveling westbound on Nimitz Hwy, after the Sand Island Access Rd intersection begins the onramp to H-1 Hwy. Posted speed limit is 35 MPH, drivers usually get caught doing 50-55 MPH near the freeway entrance because the limit it 55 MPH with a minimum speed limit of 45 MPH just before merging onto H-1.
Bikes usually utilize laser where Nimitz splits off to H-1 onramp around morning rush hour. They are constantly giving tens of tickets (perhaps hundreds per week) when I go to work in the morning.

Got a ticket early December on a Saturday morning from a group of officers waiting at the entrance of Aliamanu Middle School. Right before the middle school is a big hill with a posted speed of 25 mph. Be sure to press on the brakes before hitting this hill.

Hawaii Kai Drive

Honolulu, HawaiiJul 12, 20120 Comments

As you driving up the hill, coming from Sandy Beach/Kalama Valley on Hawaii Kai Drive, the posted speed limit is 35 mph. As soon as you hit the top of the hill, slow down to 25 mph as the speed limit will change right around the turn. If you miss seeing the sign, you may get pulled over as police are gunning at Kamiloiki Elementary. People who live in the area may be aware of this. If you are unfamiliar with the area, like the three drivers I saw get stopped today, you may be in for a hefty price tag on your ticket. Drive safe folks.

Likelike Hwy, Wilson Tunnel Town bound left lane as you exit

Honolulu, HawaiiAug 18, 20110 Comments

The motorcycle officers sit right outside the tunnel and aim their laser guns at you as you are driving uphill. The Speed limit is 35 inside the tunnel and accelerating uphill just enough to keep from getting rear ended is the name of the game. All of a sudden someone slams on their brakes in front of you then has to switch lanes to avoid hitting someone – you brake hoping the person behind you is paying attention too! Guess what? You just got tagged for speeding! Pull over to the tiny left shoulder after almost getting in a accident – go through the usual pleasantries and then try to merge back into the fast lane. Good thing these guys are looking out for my safety!
