Honolulu, Hawaii Speed Traps
Maunakea Street or near Hawaii Theater
At any 4 way intersections in this area of town the police will stop you if you do not come to a complete stop at the intersection. They will tell you that you, "blew right through it" and give you a ticket. Beware as there are a lot of cops in this area of town, usually on foot and in the late afternoon or early evening. Perhaps at night but I generally am not there at that time.
Likelike Hwy SOUTH bound just before and just after the Runaway Truck Ramp
Bike and marked cars with radar park at the end of the tree line about 300 yards past the Truck Ramp behind the tall grass and bushes.
Speed limit drops from 45 to 35 MPH
Interstate Hwy. 1 Between Punahou St. Exit and University Ave. Exit
Officer is normally hiding just behind the Isenberg St. Exit. Lights off in a late model 4Runner. Once you pass the exit you will see his daytime running lights on. Speed Limit on the freeway in that area is 45mph. Normally seen later at night after 10PM. almost on a weekly basis.
Analii St & Kalanianaole Hwy, Waialae Iki
Officers on motor patrol bikes or in cruisers monitor Ewa/west-bound traffic at all hours in 35 mph zone on Kalanianaole Highway. Drivers should slow before reaching this location at Analii Street at the Waialae Iki Playground. There’s a blind right curve before the trap, and vision is even more difficult in bright sun in late afternoons. Drivers should also not run the red lights at this intersection.
H1 Under Koko Head Ave. Overpass, Ewa/West Bound
Officers on bikes often wait in the shade under the Koko Head Avenue overpass, monitoring Ewa/west-bound traffic on the H1 Freeway at all hours, less so during early morning rush hours. Speed limit is only 50 mph on this wide 3-lane concrete highway. Approach to the speedtrap is uphill, and you must consciously resist temptations to see how your ride performs up the incline. Vision is also obstructed by the blind curve to the right before this laser trap, where hundreds of drivers have been cited.
