State Route 173

Antioch, IllinoisJan 23, 20060 Comments

Squad sits back in the trees, on the North side of the road just past the new houses. It is a dark area, so they are hard to see. If you stick to the posted limit 55mph, you will be fine. I have passes him doing 63(first night I caught sight of him/her), and was not pulled over. My guess is he/she is waiting for the DUI…So mind your speed, don’t drink and drive and you will be going home at night instead of getting a room at the jail house.
ALSO NOTE the speed limit has been changed in the Westbound lanes of 173 in front of the Wal*Mart center. It is now 45MPH (was 50). If you are heading East on 173 it is still posted at 50MPH for the same section of road.

ON Rt 83, just South of 173 in Church/School Parking Lot. Speed limit there is 20 m.p.h. during school hours & people forget this. Also heading North on Rt 83, just before the 173 intersection, they sit in the Liqour Store parking lot (west side) watching for drivers that are crossing the yellow line to turn left before the turn lane begins. They ARE pulling cars over for this EVERYWHERE!

State Highway 173 near Hillside Avenue

Have seen an Antioch squad parked at the entrance of the cemetary on Hillside. He/she parks up the driveway a bit, so it’s hard to notice it, because the driveway is uphill, so you have to look up a bit to see them sitting there.

The speed goes from 50 to 45 to 30. The cop sits in the VFW parking lot.

They love to wait here for westbound drivers! The speed limit drops rapidly just before this spot – from 55 east of Nelson Rd. to 40 west of Nelson, then almost immediately to 30MPH. The fairly steep hill there makes it difficult to slow down without pretty hard braking if you’re really moving.
