Cobden, Illinois Speed Traps

The Village of Cobden is enforcing an illegal speed limit of 25 mph on Appleknocker Dr. north of Walnut St, which violates state law. The Illinois statutory speed limit is 55 mph which cannot be altered to 25 mph at that place. The village has no engineering or traffic investigations nor has it declared by ordinance that 25 mph is a safe and reasonable maximum speed limit on that street or any other street it has jurisdiction. Old US 51 is the only street with proper maximum speed limits because it is a state maintained highway.
