Harvey, Illinois Speed Traps
Southbound Halsted at 145th/146th Streets
Harvey Police likes to sit in the Wooden Keg Liquors parking lot after closing in blacked out cars, waiting for drivers coming southbound on Halsted. The speed limit of 40 mph through Riverdale drops to 30 mph once you cross Calumet Blvd. Drivers who don’t slow down to 30 mph before reaching 145th Street have almost no reaction time when you finally see the blacked out partrol car. 90% of the time between midnight and day break, Harvey Police will be in the parking lot monitoring southbound traffic. A second vehicle is sometimes parked in the self service car wash at 146th, 1 block further south as well.
Along 158th Street
Officers are parked on a side street. Even if you do stop, or yield, they will pull you over and attempt to bribe or blackmail you. They will indicate that you are not the person on your ID and will arrest you for no reason. So, if you are speeding…slow down because they are over there to arrest you anyway.
Interstate 294 near 159th. Street
I have traveled this interstate for 16 years and at least once a week the Illinois state police will have one unmarked police car facing either northbound or southbound and have up to 15 marked and unmarked police vehicles facing the other direction and when you pass the first one in the opposite it is too late for you, the other police cars will get you as you pass them, This is done on the mile long bridge And also at The159th Street exit on I-294
Wood Street near 159th Street
Harvey Officers hang out on Wood Street (actually ANYWHERE IN HARVEY!) and will ticket for even a couple of mph over the speed limit. They will stop someone who has "not completely stopped in reference to the stationary references in the area, such as a building"…even if you’re the only car on the road. They pick on people going to and from Ingall’s Hospital in Harvey at 156th and Wood.
