Palatine, Illinois Speed Traps
State Route 53 Northbound near Exit Number Northwest Hwy.
On Northbound Route 53, there are two exits in a row at Northwest Highway. You can’t see much past the exits because the Highway crests right there too. Most drivers are distracted by cars exiting, and many of them switch lanes and accelerate to pass the exiting cars, only to see a state trooper right there. It’s like shooting fish in a barrel.
Rand Road near Williams Street
Just past William St, approx. 500 yards is a Car Wash. The patrol car sits in the car wash hidden by a corner and some plants. The speed limit is 35mph. As you accelerate to get to the 53 onramp, usually a little more than 35mph he zaps you with the radar and you are caught.
Quentin Road near Laser Village Wide
I was surprised to have my laser detector go off on Quentin Rd. An inquiry found that the Palatine Police have two Lidar units in regular use. I normally only get laser hits from State Troopers. Radar only detection will not save you in Palatine.
Harper College Drive near Algonquin & Euclid Roads
The Harper College Police hide in various parking lot entrances on the circle drive around campus. They like to catch students who are late to class (around 9:30-10:30am) and students anxious to get home (around 12:30-4:00).
US Highway Northwest near Rte. 68/Dundee Rd.
Rte 14, between Rte 68 and Baldwin Rd. Sits on a side street and times people heading East on Rte 14 from Rte 68 Dundee Rd.
