Towanda, Illinois Speed Traps
Jefferson St running through center of town
Jefferson St is the primary link between Towanda-Barnes Rd (County Road 1900E) and I-55. It also has a 30 mph speed limit. Not unusual to see a Hudson PD car sitting on any of the side streets, proximate to the railroad crossing.
Approximately 2 miles northeast of towanda on I-55
A squad or a motorcycle unit will sit in the median (sometimes as many as 4).
As south bound I-55 crosses Money Creek they are targeted.
This goes on from sunup till past sundown 7 days a week.
Illinois must take about $100,000/month at this location.

Police work in teams. One or two squad cars will park on the highway overpass and gun oncoming traffic (coming into Bloomington/Normal). If there is one squad car they usually gun toward the north, if there are two, they gun in both directions. Then, up to three other squads with sit on the on/off ramps. The police on the bridge radio to the police on the ramps alerting about speeders and they take off after the offender. It is a highly effective trap and becoming more common.
