55th street west of Wolf road

Western Springs, IllinoisFeb 20, 20150 Comments

There’s a Mobil gas station and two side streets where cops sit in a Chevy Tahoe. Speed limit on this street was recently reduced to 35 from 40. It’s very easy to pick up speed coming down the 294 bridge and not realize you’re doing almost 50. The Mobil helps cops in the winter-they pile snow high on the side so it’s sometimes impossible to identify the cop before it’s too late coming from the west. The cops here are very strict and unforgiving, make sure to adjust speed and be vigilant.

Birch lane u Ridgewood dr.

If you’re intending to use the oasis service ramp as an on-ramp to 294, be careful! Western Springs Police will sit on Ridgewood drive facing northbound and pick off any traffic that enters the oasis via the service road. The do not enter sign is very poorly marked and difficult to identify. You don’t even have to be speeding or driving recklessly, they will pull you over and ticket you anyway. Always use caution in this area.

Ogden Avenue

Police will get a cherry picker and pretend they are utility workers working on the overhead wires. Surprise! Lidar from the bucket will get you. So be suspicious of any utility work on Ogden or anywhere else in the village. The police are very proud of this tactic!

55th Street near Interstate 294

Western Springs, IllinoisOct 05, 20070 Comments

The cop is usually sitting on the south side of 55th St., just east of I-294, normally checking on eastbound traffic. Between County Line Rd. and I-294, the speed limit increases to 40mph from 35mph. Once a car crosse the overpass, there is a somewhat steep downgrade, so it’s easy to pick up speed and not realize that you’re doing almost 50mph.
