County Line Road near Emerson Avenue

Greenwood, IndianaApr 19, 20040 Comments

Going west on County Line you will see this trap big time, but it’s for east-bound traffic approaching the Emerson Avenue intersection, just before the I-65 interchange. On the south side of County Line is the Greenwood Municipal Airport. There is a pilot’s entrance, and this enterance has a fence on the west side that goes almost to County Line Road itself. A Greenwood City cop will sit behind this fence in the pilot entrance pullout and use his Radar or Laser gun to tag east bound traffic as they pass. My detector suggests that he uses the instant-on technique…probably since he can’t see the traffic coming anyway. He’s not shy about pulling you over. The speed limit is 40mph, but the road is four lane with a turn-lane center lane — easily designed for 55mph traffic. That’s the typical speed, but you will get busted if not careful. I suggest you slow it as you come past the fence. West bound traffic should be polite and flash their headlights for east-bound traffic. This is a blatent trap, no one should be pulled over here.

Emerson Avenue near County Line Road

Emerson Avenue between Main Street and County Line Road in Greenwood was recently widened from two lanes to four with a turn-lane center lane. The bumpy, over-patched, pothole ridden two lane road was 45mph. The new wider, safer, smoother road is 40mph! Greenwood City cops regularly sit on side roads and pullouts. The one I see is usually close to the County Line Road intersection on the east side of Emerson. It is easy to go 50+ on this road, and many do. Keep a sharp lookout if you do this and one eye on your radar detector. The cop will sit far from the street with his lights off and is hard to see until the last minute, especially at night. Be careful if you push it, Greenwood cops are notoriously eager to give tickets for minor speeding.

Sheek Road near Main Street

Coming north or south on Sheek Road has become tedious. You come out of the country at 40MPH, it drops to 35MPH, then again to 30MPH in a curve section, then back up to 35MPH untill you reach Main Street. The Greenwood Cops LOVE the 30MPH section, and it is short so you’ll probably be doing 35-40 when you enter it. Then they’ll get you. There are a few subdivisions here. They will sit in the entrances, usually in their Black and White Crown Vic cars. If you aren’t familiar with the area, Sheek road winds behind the Jonathan Byrd’s cafeteria just off of the I-65/Main Street Greenwood exit. Watch yourself. FYI: The speed limits in Greenwood suck, and the Greenwood Cops are more than happy to give tickets, for even minor speeding.

Cops love to sit inside the entrance to an abandoned housing development and clock you coming down the hill going north. Is out usually 3/5 days of the week, especially in the 30 mintues before and after school hours.

Beggining at Ritter’s Custard Stand and also on some of the side streets east of the intersection, local police lay in wait for traffic coming eastbound on County Line Road.
