West Street near White River Parkway

Indianapolis, IndianaApr 19, 20040 Comments

Bluff Road converges with West Street coming into or out of downtown. This is a popular route for going to the IUPUI campus, The RCA Dome, or Victory Field. At the particular intersection of West and White River Pky. is a Fueling station for IPD officers and city vehicles. Many times the IPD cops will sit and enforce the 35 MPH limit after gassing up. Right after you pass the fueling station the limit becomes 40 MPH so it is easy to be going 45. They will pull you over for 45 and give tickets. Normally you can see them, however a fence that is there may obscure the cop car. The locals are savvy to this trap, but the tourist…especially to a Colts Football game may not be. They fuel up at all hours of the day so keep an eagle eye.

S. Keystone Avenue near Walker Avenue

Indianapolis, IndianaDec 31, 20030 Comments

A motorcycle officer stands behind a tree or at the first cross street south of Walker Ave. on the east side of Keystone Ave. and waves the motorist to halt. Also, in the same area is the Sarah Shank golf course on the same side of Keystone Ave. Several squad cars congregate unseen just within the entrance of the golf course parking lot, a prime location for catching the many violators of the posted 40 mph speed limit at all hours of the day.

E. Washington St., just west of Ritter

Indianapolis, IndianaMar 24, 20030 Comments

It’s set up in the old Brown library parking lot, and the parking lot across the street. The (clearly posted) speed limit is 25 MPH because it’s a school zone. Unfortunately, I can see the necessity of this one, so my intent in posting this is to encourage motorists to just go ahead and slow down in that area rather than to warn anyone about some unfair thing to be gotten around.

Along Madison between Banta and Southport Roads

K-band radar (24.140-24.158 range)being used for patrol N and S along Madison Avenue. These are Southport Police looking to pick up unknowing speeders. There are usually 2 units…one on each side of the road. One is usually marked, the other one is an unmarked vehicle.

Arlington Avenue around 25th Street

Police on motorcycles will be just beyond the bridge on a parking lot. Their bikes are fairly hidden, and they stand near the sidewalk on the west side of the street with a radar detector.
