State Highway 415 near NW 98th Avenue

Ankeny, IowaAug 23, 20070 Comments

Ankeny cops park on NW 99 TH AV, just out of sight and stop cars going both directions on Highway 415. I have seen them on several different days between 6:30 and 8:00 a.m. They also do this on some weekends. This road gets a lot of lake traffic, so they stop speeders and then also check them for drunk driving.

Interstate I-35 near Exit Number 89

Ankeny, IowaJun 27, 20070 Comments

The normal speed limit on insterstate highways in Iowa is 70. By the cities, it drops to 65, and due to construction a couple miles from this location, it drops to 55. This is a new exit and overpass. The local city has annexed this area, and therefore the local city cops will sit hidden on top of this overpass and catch people. They are doing this a couple times a week during the day. I don’t know if they are doing it at any other times.

Cops are illegally parked on a private drive that leads to a retirement home. Once they stop somebody, they then contribute to traffic congestion. Cops selectively inforce laws in Ankeny, Iowa. Beware.

Interstate 35 near Corporat Woods Drive Overpass Crossing

The Ankeny City Police seem to feel they need to patrol the Interstate for the Iowa Highway Patrol. I’m sure it has nothing to do with raising extra revenue.
FWIW, Many of the Des Moines suburbs patrol the Interstates more regularly than their city streets.
The police will park behind barriers and on overpasses and give citations that probably truly fall in the realm of the Iowa Highway Patrol. They cite Ankeny residents, old or young, equally with through traffic.
