US Highway 75 near Maple Street

Hinton, IowaAug 16, 20070 Comments

Local town police, Hinton PD, hires uncertified police officers with little or no training. Department does not have radar policy. Police officer always reduces citations down to 6 over speed limit so nobody will go to court and just pay the fine. $76.00. If it does go to court, judge always rules in favor of officer regardless of any doubt raised about certification, interference or just writing what is on the ticket. Office sits back 200′ away from 35MPH and "catches" his violators from a secret place.

US 75 southbound

Hinton, IowaJun 30, 20030 Comments

The southbound speed limit on 75 leaving Hinton. Nothing but a good-old-fashioned-speed-trap. I know it’s there, but the poor unsuspecting out-of-area drivers don’t. It’s like shooting fish in a barrel for the Hinton Police Department.
It is totally inconsistant with the speed limit signing anywhere else on 75 between Sioux City & Le Mars. Everywhere else, as soon as you have the full divided highway with the ditch, it resumes to 65. It totally violates driver expectancy and is incosistant – 2 of the needs of any traffic control device. It’s probably because to the well-to-do neighborhood south of Hinton.
