Interstate 80 near State Highway 1 a.k.a. Dodge St.
On the Wed, or Thurs, before Thanksgiving weekend, Memorial day weekend, and some large Holidays and occasionally last weekends of the month. There will be a speed trap set up on the Dodge Street overpass over Interstate 80. When they do choose to do this it seems to be just for 1, sometimes 2 days. They have 1 person standing on the bridge with a radar and up to 15 cops operating the trap.
Dubuque Street near Park Road
There’s a hill on Dubuque Street as you approach the Park Road stoplight and a cop is frequently seen in the parking lot next to a fraternity and can’t be seen until it’s too late. It’s easy to get caught since it is not too long before the Mayflower when the limit goes up to 35. The speed limit is 25 as it is in most of Iowa City so watch out!
N. Dubuque Street near E. Brown Street
Signs on Dubuque North bound down hill say 25 MPH but keeping a vehicle at that speed going down hill and not get rear ended is impossible. Cop hides just North of Brown St. and zaps you just as you see speed limit increase to 35 MPH. $56 ticket!
south Dodge Street near south of Burlington, just over the bridge that crosses the railroad tracks
The police cruiser sits just on the other side of the bridge if you are coming from the north, heading south on Dodge. He is usually in an alley there facing towards the bridge with radar running. The speed limit is 25 and people are rarely ddoing that when they cross that bridge. It gets a lot of people.
Scott Boulevard
There are many housing developments and trailer parks off the main drag. Officers will use these entrance/exit points to hide, as there are many bushes, trees, signs, etc. that obscure a driver’s view. The speed limit on this road is agonizingly slow, but don’t be fooled! They WILL get you…
