Traps are located at the bottom of hills where highway speed is reduced to 35 mph in a short distance. Local traffic at the same speed is ignored and selection of out-of-state plates is certain. Method of speed detection (Radar, clocking or officer guess) is never provided.

US Highway 36 near State Highway 25
The local newspaper, Rawlins County Square Deal, 9-25-08, lists as many as 4 tickets per day for speeding in a 20mph construction zone on US Hwy 36. A 24mph in the 20mph zone costs $60 for the fine, $70 for court costs and $5 administrative fee. Total cost is $135 for 4 mph over the posted speed limit. All tickets were for non-local drivers.
