Silver Lake, Kansas Speed Traps

Under the water tower is the police station. There is often someone running radar there. If you didn’t know, here the speed limit is 20, so they catch a lot of people from the highway usually going 65.

Silver Lake is a very nice, well mannered town. I believe traffic enforcement is thier primary duty. There are 2 city cars, and I believe the county helps out occasionally. They have spots all up and down 24 hwy. On the SE side of town they will sit in the grocery store parking lot, which is a couple hundred feet after the speed limit changes from 45 to 40, about 1/4 mile after dropping from 65. A little further into town they will sit in Casey’s parking lot (40). In the middle of town they will sit behind a stone wall in a used car lot where they are impossible to see, and it’s a 20 mph zone. Also, on the west edge of town they can get people coming and going. To the best of my knowledge they are good guys, but they are strict with speed and won’t hesitate to pull you over. I see them most often during morning traffic and during the evenings.
