N. Hillside between 21st & 254

Officers stand next to the telephone poles (to hide) and clock you as you go by the park. Another officer is standing by and waving you over before you get there. This is mostly in affect during the school year and gets a lot of the college kids heading to WSU but I’ve seen it many times after work too. Watch the sides of the road, you will see them.

Oliver, between 47th S. and 63rd S.

This road used to be a 2-lane with blind driveways, and a 50 mph limit. Now it’s a 4-lane, wide-open blacktop with limited access and a 45. Every now and then the local constabulary gets "concerned about safety" and sets a trap. There are some pull-offs–farmer’s access–just south of 47th where a cop on a bike can be practically invisible as he sits in the late afternoon shade of the roadside trees. Also, as you approach Derby, around that last bend, there’s an as yet unused housing development entrance where the Derby police sit quite often, and can’t be seen until it’s too late. Speed limit drops to 40 right here, too, which most people don’t seem to notice.

North Greenwich Road and East 21st Street

Wichita, KansasJun 04, 20030 Comments

The city recently annexed rural areas and lowered speed limits along N. Greenwich (Central to K-96) and East 21st Street (Webb Road to 123rd Street East). These are essentially rural roads with speed limits that were 55 mph now lowered to 40 mph. Enforcement is very high… 24 hours a day with no tolerance. The speed limits are enforced by both city and county. You will feel like you are crawling along both of these roads because there are no side streets, no development, and little traffic. However, resist the temptation to speed. You WILL be stopped if you do.

w bound near meridain and after.

Well the trees off of Kell near Meridain and such. They like to park "dark" (dark meaning no lights on) behind trees and run radar–I was doing like 75-80 (normal for me when going to work at 11:15pm )in a 65 and "K" band went off. Sure enough one hiding in behind trees w/ rear radar. My dect went off I slowed and sure enough there he/she was behind tree.

Kellogg Ave (US-54), about a mile E and W of Hillside Ave.

Wichita, KansasMar 25, 20030 Comments

This trap is set up occasionally and nabs hundreds of speeders in a session. Officers stand on a pedestrian overpass and paint speeders. A line of cruisers waits at the Hillside onramp, and they radio to the cars who take off and catch the speeders. This is the area about a 1.5mile W of where Kellogg slows down to 40mph. Just keep it below 5mph over in this area.
