On Jan 25TH Becareful coming thru this town because its definetly a speed trapp it also is a gold digger town..Recently my girlfriend and i was travling thru Cheneyville on our way north to another town we like the back roads because of the history they have in them…as we was entering the city limits sign said reduce speed ahead we did just that ..and then the speed dropped frm 55 to 45 to 35..really fast before you even know it..
As we entered the city we have been behind another car we have been following for a long time.. the speed limits dropped and so did we..we had seen the police car heading south on 71 and i saw the gps speed limit and it said 35 i looked at the speed o meter it said 39 mph.{keep this speed in mind}..as we passed the police car i saw he had turned the light on and turned around and was now heading north…i was pulled over and was issued a ticket for 46 in a 35 ..as the officer gave me the ticket i asked him how come if i was doing 46 and following another car in front of me..now get this one he was doing 39..now {duh..duh..}if he is doing 39 nad im supposed 46 would we could have done 2 things one passed the other car or crashed into him.hmmm..now i ask you is this town a speed trap or what..

Cheneyville, Louisiana, Highway 71 Northbound

I was driving north on 71, approaching Cheneyville, when I noticed the police cruiser traveling south. I checked my speed (53 in a 55) and looked up and saw a sign warning me of an approaching 45 mile zone. I removed my foot from the accelerator, and by the time that I got to the "Speed Limit 45" sign, I was under 50 miles per hour. By the time we crossed paths, I was doing 45, on my way down to 35 for the next speed zone.

As soon as we crossed paths, the officer made a u-turn and initiated a traffic stop, issuing me a ticket for 55 in a 45. I didn’t even speak to him, I just signed the ticket and went about my business. Now that I see that others have had the same experience in this town, I am wondering if I should try to fight the ticket?

Anyway, watch your speed in Cheneyville, because it seems that the officer there isn’t familiar with the way speed zones work.

As i approached Cheneyville on Hwy 71 headed south, I was doing 47 and the police car cruising toward me hit his lights. The 35 mph sign was in FRONT of me and I braked and was doing 33 by the time I crossed the sign. He turned around in the loose gravel loop and pulled me over. He ticketed me for 47 in a 35 and I said “No No, I was still in the 45 zone when you clocked me” He told me there were 2 signs. I argued to no avail. He is the Chief of Police and I’ve heard this is a common occurrence. When I called city clerk she was apologetic, but told me the fine was $202.00. I sent my son to pay the fine because I didn’t want to even see this ‘chief”. I hate this town…all beware – you better not go even 1 mph over their posted 35! When you see the town you’ll know why…it has NO other way to generate income.

Traveling north on 71. Go around curve and Bam! Speed limit drops to 35 and a cop is sitting right there. Got a ticket. Cop said I would have to call police office Monday for cost of ticket. I called them and they told me $138.50. Then they sent me a letter a week later telling me to send another $66.50 as I did not send them enough. It’s called extortion!

U.S. Highway 71 Through Cheneyville

We were heading north through Cheneyville in April 2010 and was clocked doing 47 in a 35mph. The Chief that pulled us over said we were in a 35mph zone, however, we were still in a 45mph zone. The ticket was $133.50. He informed me that it was the “second” 35mph zone sign and I missed the first one. We saw the only 35mph zone sign and was slowing down for it when he peeled out in the gravel to loop around and catch me. When he got out of the car, he spit a big wad of tobacco. We assumed he was the chief, the judge, and the baliff so we just let it go. Beware…
