Cotton Valley, Louisiana Speed Traps

The cop clocks you in the 55 MPH limit and claims you are in a 45. He sits on the south bound side, clocking southbound traffic. He is inside the City Limit well within the 55 MPH Speed Limit zone. The 55 MPH Speed Limit sign is 2.5 miles north of town and the 45 MPH is well inside the City Limits. There are no speed limit signs anywhere within those 2.5 miles.

About 1/4 mile before you reach the city limit sign an officer hides behind trees on the West side of Hwy 371 near where the speed changes from 45mph to 55mph. If you are South bound you can see the 55mph sign from where he hides but you are not quite to the point of acceleration. If you are North bound you have just entered the 45mph zone. The tickets are never less than $175 and you have 2 weeks or less to pay. When you call the numbers on the back of the ticket to find out how much the ticket is there is no answer. When you leave a message your phone call is not returned. This forces you to take a day off of work to go to the court date instead of paying the ticket ahead of time and saving a day’s work.

Cotton Valley has hired 2 new young officers. They are writing speeding tickets 1 mile per hour over the posted 45 mph limit. This is in the evening and mornings.

Another small town is Louisiana that depends a lot on traffic tickerts. You will be stop for going 1 mph over the 45 mph posted limit. All of hwy 371 north from I-20 to stateline is patrol heavy by deptuy shrieff and state police.
