At town line on 425 & also just past police station

Ferriday, LouisianaNov 13, 20190 Comments

There are two white speed signs in Ferriday. One says 35 and the other says 50.
Rather than using the proper yellow school speed sign for the 35 speed like every other town in the US, this town uses a white regular speed sign with super tiny hours on it that you can’t read until you are near the sign.
The second trap is near the police station located in a shopping plaza at the end of town. If you have out of state plates, you will most likely be targeted. My partner is military and several of his crew has been pulled over including him. If you say you are military and flash your ID, you will most likely not get a ticket.
My partner did not show military ID and was given a $149 ticket for 5mph over speed limit. I was also targeted later for going 2mph under the speed limit when I drove to Ferriday to pay his ticket. The worst part is that they have an unqualified non-certified dispatcher who will not give straight answers when you have questions. If you ask her something she doesn’t know the answer to, she gets angrier. When you see how run down this town is, it will make sense to you about why they have speed traps. With trees growing out the roofs of buildings, this town probably needs money.
Also, the police chief is referred to as “Major” which in itself is a conflict of interest. No one should serve as a police chief and Major at the same time. I suspect he is why all the Ferriday posts were removed from this site, due to special privileges.
Lastly, the town mayor also serves as the town judge, so you have a slim chance of getting a fair trial. Another “major” conflict of interest.

LA 425 heading north approaching the town / city limits

Supposedly I was going 58 in a 50 mph zone, on a 5 lane (center turn) divided state highway with wide shoulders, in a rural agricultural area that in a normal American town should have been marked 55 or even 65. I was pulled over within sight of a 55 mph sign. I’m 64, been driving since age 14, and have gotten stopped maybe twice in my life. Don’t think I’ve ever gotten a ticket. Never had an accident other than one very minor fender-bender yrs ago. I very rarely go more than 5 mph over the posted speed limit. Come to think of it, I’m not even sure I was going as fast as the L.O. claimed. Anyhow….weeks later, I called the # on the now totally faded ticket (as if it were written in disappearing ink), to find out how much and where to send payment. They had a lot of trouble finding a record of the ticket. I’m still not convinced they found a record at all, but just took my word for it and came up with a dollar amount based on my description. Don’t pass through Ferriday if you can help it. If you can’t help it, consider turning on your cellphone video or dash cam video until you leave the town limits. Also, if you are a Louisiana resident, but have marks on your vehicle identifying it as having been purchased outside the Ferriday/Concordia Parish area, consider obscuring it or even removing it if you must pass through this town. I guess now, with computerized license-plate readers in some police cars, that might not be as useful, but I got the impression that somehow the L.O. knew I was not from the local area, even before he looked at my drivers’ license. On my way back from the mailbox with a check to the City of Ferriday for $149, I will scrape off the dealer sticker!

coming into and going out of Ferriday

Coming into Ferriday heading South I was stopped at 9:20 9/17/18 Officer said she stopped me for speeding. I had the same situation 2 years ago going out of Ferriday. I contacted the Attorney General’s office then and they said that you had to be going the speed limit when you came to a speed zone sign. Well I made sure I was going 45 after coming from a 65 mph speed zone and set my cruise control and checked my speed on my information controls on the dash. I am going to start a video going the minute I come into this town again to make sure that if I get stopped again I will have proof. By the way I told the officer to get someone to the site where she stopped me; I was not going thru this crap again. I then called the State Police *577 and left a message for them letting them know what was happening again. The officer heard me leaving the message and said that she was just going to give me a warning…..????? I have contacted the Attorney General’s office again to file another complaint about this.

Ferriday, LA

I had just stopped in Ferriday, LA to get gas and a soft drink. It was mid-afternoon on a clear Sunday with normal traffic. I started north on Highway 425. The speed limit was 45 on a 4 lane highway. I was following 3 other cars, the car in the front was a Ferriday, city police. We were all going the speed limit. As we were leaving town the speed limit had increased to 55mph. The city policeman moved to the middle lane and stopped as we passed, he then made a U-turn going back south bound. At that time I noticed flashing police light on a car almost a half mile back coming our way. I had not passed any of the cars going my way. All the cars were in the right lane of two north bound lanes. This was a second city police car that pulled me over about 3/4 of a mile north of town. He stated I was going 58 in a 45 back in town. He did not use radar or laser and it was not checked on the ticket he wrote. I also know for a fact that I wasn’t speeding and had a passenger as a witness to support this. Also of the other cars I was driving with, I had the only car with out of state tags.
I’m in my mid 50’s and have a perfect driving record, and never had a violation in the past. It’s a real shame that small towns in this country can support entrapment and profiling to this extent!

In early January of 2017 I received a speeding ticket while driving through Ferriday. I was driving through the middle of town at 12:00 noon and the traffic was probably moderate to heavy for this small town. There were cars in front of me and behind me. I was observing the speed limit. I was stopped by a policeman who told me that I was driving 57 mph in a 45 mph zone. I tried to tell the officer that I was not speeding but he would have no part of it. the cars ahead of me were not stopped. I travel through this area frequently and know it to be a speed trap that is why I was extra cautious. I have paid the ticket, it will not go on my record.
