Mansfield, Louisiana Speed Traps
SH 509 NE of town, just inside city limits
This trap is just inside the Mansfield city limits, and about 200 yards past (going south) the sign where the speed limit changes from 55 mph to 45 mph. The local yokel will sit at the top of a hill and catch people coming around a blind curve. 45 mph seems very slow for this stretch of highway, so it is easy to be driving at what seems to be a safe speed, but is well over the posted limit. In my instance, I was told I was clocked at 61 mph. Retracing the route, it didn’t feel like I would have been going even that fast at that point, but since I never saw him until he pulled me over, I didn’t look at the speedo at the point of infraction – i.e. it is possible the speed violation was contrived to nail the out of state driver.
Anywhere
Known to use secluded places in all parts of town. Some patrolmen just like to write tickets and see how many they can write. The problem is so bad that one even has a nickname…"The Ticketmaster".
