New Orleans, Louisiana Speed Traps
I-10 from Jazzland Pk. sign to Lake Ponchartrain Causeway
Patrol cars from New Orleans Police and La. State Police. Units parked along I=10 and on entrances to I-10 partially hidden. Time working hours 9:am to 6:pm.
Palmetto Ave. Towards Metairie Road
Motorcycle cops sit on side streets or behind fences where you can’t see them and laser as you come over the overpass, limit is 35; most people do 50-60. Further down the road limit drops to 20, motorcycle cops sit behind the canal bend with laser and pull you over when it’s too late.
Gentilly Blvd
Motorcycles hide behind wide, 100 year old oak trees with the radar gun connected to the street side of the motorcycle. Officers step out into the street to pull over speeders, usually those going 9-10+ mph faster than the posted limit is 35 mph, which is not too unreasonable given it’s a residential area. Enforcement usually during the AM rush hour coming into the city and the PM rush hour going away from the city. Although I’ve not gotten a ticket in this area, they are very agressive.
General DeGaulle Ave. (Westbank)
New Orleans motorcycle cops hide behind residential obstacles (fences, bushes, trees, etc.) to catch anyone going over the 35 mph speed limit heading westbound in AM.They sometimes repeat the speed trap going eastbound in PM where the speed limit is a confusing 40 mph. New radar devices built within their cycles apparently have a remote "instant on" feature as policemen can hide away from cycle and radar detectors do not give adequate warning.
West Bank Expressway (US 90 Business)
Crescent City Connection Police seem determined to justify their existence. (State agency limited to this expressway and toll bridge.) Speed limit on 4-lane bridge is 50 MPH. Police not concerned with slowpokes obstructing traffic, only fast-movers.
