Falmouth, MaineSep 04, 20060 Comments

Moderate enforcement of the 30MPH speed limit section of Woodville Road, especially in and around Falmouth High School and Falmouth Middle School. Cops tend to either hide off the road near the Middle School (facing Falmouth Road), and/or hiding off the road near the High School (facing Field Road). Woods Road and part of Woodville Road is 40MPH speed limit. Cops sometimes pull over people going over the speed limit coming from those parts of those roads.

Speed limit on Blackstrap is 35MPH. The speed limit used to be 45MPH, and could easily be much higher. Traffic on Blackstrap often exceeds 50. Speeding is common on this road, however cops do not focus on enforecement too much on this road. People have been pulled over on Blackstrap before, but it is not a regular occurance.

Mountain Road near Blackstrap Road

Falmouth, MaineSep 04, 20060 Comments

Speeding is fairly common on Mountain Road. The speed limit is 35MPH, people often go 50MPH+, and the cops love this. They hide in the dense woods off to the side of the road and pick people up. This speedtrap is not as active as it once was, but be advised there are often cops hiding, as Mountain Road is a popular route from Portland to Windham.

State Route 9 near Woods Road

Falmouth, MaineJul 18, 20060 Comments

They lowered the speed trap from 40 to 30, Longwoods is a rural "farm and forest" road, it is wide and eventually goes to 50MPH at the Cumberland Line. If the 85th percentile was followed, this road should probably be 55. Sad, Falmouth was never a speed trap town before.

Woodville Rd (40 mph zone)

Falmouth, MaineJan 01, 20010 Comments

Going from Woods road, take a right onto Woodville (heading away from the school). This immediately takes you onto a straight away. Speeding is really easy on this straight, but there’s a sharp curve at the end. Local law enforcement parks in the driveways at the end of the straight on the corner, so they have an unrestricted view of all traffic coming directly at them. The black painted grilles of the police cars and white paint schemes camouflage the police vehicle with the mostly dark and snowy background (in the winter / fall), and since there’s no lights behind the vehicle the profile is hidden too. The speed limit is 40 mph, but it’s easy to go fast.
