Hampden, Maine Speed Traps
State Route 9 near State Route 202
Coming out of the center of Hampden is Route 9 joining into 202. The speed limits stay low until well outside of the center. The tendency is, of course, to speed up once past the town offices. Don’t. Local law enforcement like to patrol this stretch–it’s easy pickings, especially at rush. Same goes for the sections of 202/9 to the town line going westbound. The limit is 55, varying down to 35 at intersections of popular cross roads. Again, easy pickings. So–slow down.

State Highway 1A near Interstate 395
Main Road South and North (Route 1A) bisects Hampden, Maine. The speed limit on the road is 35 because of the built up areas. 35 is a bit slow and it is a commuter road, so people tend to move along. Don’t! The local police like to stake out the road at various intervals from the Bangor line down to the Winterport line. It’s easy pickings! So, slow down.

Kennebec Road near Mayo Road
Near the intersection of the Kennebec and Mayo Roads is a popular place to start gaining speed coming out of town. We recommend you stay at 25 mph. The area is frequently patrolled and was the subject of a pedestrian accident with a child. So, slow down. If you get a ticket here you darn well deserve it.

Cold Brook Road near State Highway 202
After one crosses 202 on the Cold Brook Road there is a steep hill marked at 30 mph. On occasion a local police officer will sit at the bottom of the hill in a dirt drive and stop cars exceeding the limit. It is very difficult to maintain 30 mph going down the steep hill, so this one is easy pickings for local law enforcement.

Cold Brook Road near State Highway 202
Eastbound on Cold Brook Road almost to the junction of 202 the speed limit slows from 40 to 30 mph shortly before the lights. The local police like to sit in an a business road off to the right, right on a slight curve right near the 30 mph sign.
