State Route 196

These guys hide every where. They are very sly on their trap locations. One Officer is on a motorcycle in the area of the Big Dipper Ice Cream shop. He parks and hits your vehicle with the radar gun then calls it out to several officers waiting further up the road. I see why they have to do that. They don’t have a real motorcycle program the motorcycle officer is on a high speed moped. Anyway be careful in this area, they are ruthless and god help you if you drive through this town on this road after dark.

After you leave Lewiston on Rt 196, the road curves hard to the right, then back to the leFort Late at night (especially weekends) the PD will have two cars working the scene. The first will stop a car going through the "S" curve for "cutting the corner" or suspicion of DWI. They will stop the first car just before the large flea market on the leFort At this point, the speed limit drops from 45 to 35. The second police unit will be parked at the other end of the flea market. If you’re in the first car, the PD will keep you around long enough for their real target to arrive: Seeing that some poor sap is already getting a ticket, the second driver continues at 45mph (or faster) and is promptly picked up by the second police unit. I have been the first driver more than once, and never been charged with anything. After questioning me and bagging the second driver, the cop usually just hands me my license and sends me on my way.

Traveling on Route 9 towards Route 196. The speed limit drops from 50m.p.h. to 35 m.p.h. Normally there is a Lisbon Police car sitting just over a hill, if you are doing anything over 40m.p.h. he will bag you. He goes through cycles. One month you may not see him at all, but there have been some months where he is there each morning.
