Route 1 and Shore Road near US Highway Route 1

Ogunquit, MaineMar 27, 20060 Comments

During the day, enforcement is unnecessary because traffic crawls, but late at night the Ogunquit cops have little to do but watch for speeders down Route 1 and on Shore Road, from the five-point intersection to Perkins Cove. I have had a cop follow me at 4 in the morning as I make my way down to the cove to go fishing: he made every sound in my radar detector go off and was on my rear bumper until turning right just before the cove. Cops will sit at the laundromat near the town line or at any of the parking lots on Route 1. They enforce the law strictly, so don’t go over the posted limit of 40, 35 or 25 all the way from Wells to Ogunquit. In the village of Ogunquit, they sit at the Sparhawk or near the intersection with Israel’s Head Road.
