Portland police, using both marked & unmarked vehicles, lurking among the various turnouts along outer Commercial Street. Looking for speeders on the long stretch between the heavily congested waterfront and Veteran’s Circle traffic lights.

State Route 1

Portland, MaineFeb 26, 20070 Comments

Exiting I-295 onto Rt.1 near Martin’s Point and entering Falmouth, I have seen/heard of/been caught in a trap with one police car hiding behind a snow bank or something else, and at least 3 more waiting to exit the Martin’s Point hospital to nab drivers. The speed limit drops from 45mph to 30mph after you exit the off-ramp,and is coming down a hill. Almost everyone is travelling well over 30mph, and it is completely safe to do so. I got nailed going 43 in the 30 zone, and there were already 2 cars pulled over and I saw the next car that came behind me get pulled. It is as blatant, pointless and aggravating as can be. Nobody is doing any harm and you get a $185 ticket or the joy of losing time from work to fight it. Thanks Portland!

Washington Avenue near Riverside Street

The radar car sits in a church parking lot on outer Washington Avenue just beyond Riverside St., facing the traffic inbound into Portland from Falmouth. I think there is a curve there, so once you see them it is too late.

Congress St. & Johnson Rd. Loop near Maine Turnpike

Portland, MaineMar 28, 20060 Comments

This is a shortcut loop between the Johnson Rd., in South Portland and outer Congress St., in Portland with a Turnpike exit in the middle. I have seen the radar car there lately, it is posted 30 or 35, which is way too slow.
