Auburn Street near Washington Avenue
Starting about 15 minutes before the school limit lights start flashing, a radar equipped Portland Police vehicle will start to enforce the 15 mph limit. Such may continue 15 or so minutes after the school limit flashing lights are turned off. Normally the street has a 35 mph limit. There are crossing guards during school hours, ie. while the school zone lights are flashing and thus no risk for school children.
Congress Street near St. Patrick’s School
Police wait a few streets up from St. Patrick’s school during school hours. Make sure the exact time if you get pulled over. School time speed limits starts at 730am.
Interstate 95 near Exit Number 48 Old Exit 8
Right at Exit 48 (the old Exit 8), there is a U-Turn where police sit in the early morning or late afternoon hours. They are typically monitoring the Northbound lanes because drivers tend to speed up to 65 before they realize the speed limit between Exit 48 and 53 is 55 MPH.
Payson Park Street
Near the baseball diamonds as you enter Payson Park (from Baxter Blvd to Ocean Ave) there are often cops hanging out waiting to get someone going above 15 mph (regardless if there’s a soul in the park!)
Canco Road near Washington Avenue
