Burkittsville, Maryland Speed Traps
Gapland Road Coming down south mountain to Burkittsville
Coming down South mountain almost to Burkittsville, First you spot one sign suddenly your coming down the sharp hill and Bang you have to hit the brakes. Every person but me in my family got nailed the first day. First they had a huge speed bump installed which destroyed the suspension of my explorer at 25 mph. No warning, nothing just bang. Like driving straight into a good sized curb. It literally drove the shocks up and bent the support metal in the front. I think they may have been sued. as they cut down the bump and smoothed it out some what. I still would not hit it at 25 MPH. Also there are two signs The first one I was talking about was hidden by a tree but the finally moved it and enlarged it. Burkkittsville is a speed trap so approach with care. This is coming down Gapland Rd. There is one on 17 as well as noted by 6 people.
Hwy 17/Burkittsville Road near Main Street
Coming north into Burkittsville, the speed limit drops from 40 traveling up a hill and immediately drops to 25 with no time for correction. They pop you topping the hill. I tried to fight it in court and the judge sarcastically told me to take it up with the county who sets the speed limits. As a result, I bought a radar detector, which is legal in MD and has been quite effective.
