State Route 5 North near Gallant Green Road

Hughesville, MarylandSep 18, 20060 Comments

MSP backs into driveway and usually 2 troopers use radar/laser. They sit almost directly across the hwy from the Hughesville Pond approximately 200 feet before the 55 MPH sign. If you are going over 40 MPH, be prepared to get stopped and ticketed if you are the unfortunate one to be leading the line of cars heading north on Rte. 5. 200 feet before the speed limit jumps 15 MPH is ridculous. I urge anyone getting a citation here to take it to court.

They post a Charles County Sheriffs car there on the left hand side of the road at night time area/early morning IVO of the Hughesville ballfields. They usually watch for speeders/drunks right before they hit dead mans curve there heading into St. Mary’s Co.

State Route 5 near Mobil Gas Station

Hughesville, MarylandAug 25, 20050 Comments

Going northbound on Route 5, there is a Mobil gas station with a dirt lot next to it where cops like to set up speed traps. It’s hard to see them coming up on it. Also, from that point on until the end of the construction zone (near a Mitchell’s) you need to be careful of speed traps. The cops like to sit out in the median, usually in groups, with the hoods and trunks of their cars up. They usually do this in front of the iris farm (a small brick residence) on the southbound side.

Rt. 5 North

Hughesville, MarylandFeb 16, 20030 Comments

Going up rt 5 North through Hughesville, the road dips down and goes into a school zone. Officer parks behind a little white shack on the right at the top of the hill in the school zone and gets the drivers going North bound. I think the speed drops from 55 down to i think 45 through here, so watch out, especially when the school zone lights are flashing.
