Always a cop sitting in the Laurel Community Center stopping people who are doing 35 in a 25.

US Highway Route 1, north of Main Street

Laurel, MarylandMar 11, 20080 Comments

On US Route 1, north of Main street, the road widens and become very straight with few obsticles. The 35 MPH limit is in effect all the way north to Whiskey Bottom Road, north of which it is 50 MPH. In the 50 zone enforcement is light, but as soon as one gets to the 35, with no particular change in the road quality, there is an officer with radar almost every night, and many days.

Brock Bridge Road near River Bridge Way

Right past Brock Bridge Elementary School. The police usually sit in the Moose Lodge parking lot (right before Brock Bridge Estates.) The speed limit is 25 mph and there is a hill right before the Moose Lodge (people will be going faster and you can’t see the Police until you get right up on them.) Someone is almost always already pulled over when you pass by.

State Route 216 near Interstate 95

Usually 2 or 3 cruisers on the shoulder, just past the exit from Rt 216 East for I-95 South. As you come around the sound barrier wall, you don’t see them until too late. Trunks up, the regular MO. The road is a divided highway, wide lanes, most people travel 65 mph. Speed limit is 45. It was 50mph before the road was pushed through straight from Leishur Rd to Rt 29. The entire stretch of Rt 216 from All Saints Road (closer in towards Main St. Laurel) to Rt 29 is a major speed trap, due to the wide road and ridiculously low speed limit. Also watch for the fat cop driving the Black 2005 Mustang GT. He cruises with moving radar in this area and on Rt 29 in this area frequently. I’ve also seen the cruisers set up at the top of the hill, both in the median and the shoulder right before the overpass over I-95.

State Route 29 North near Johns Hopkins Rd. Crossing

Laurel, MarylandJan 11, 20070 Comments

As of late 2006 (to include Dec 23 and 24th – ba humbug!) and each weekend afterward as well as weekdays, this trap has 5 to 7 Howard County cruisers positioned just North of the bridge that is at the bottom of the hill just north of Johns Hopkins Rd. The road is three lanes, and travel speeds are at 65-75 with a 55mph limit. Trunks are up so the bubble gum machines are hidden. Howard County Tax payers are reaping the "benefits" of a too-large police force.
