Belchertown, Massachusetts Speed Traps
State Route 9 near Mill Valley Golf Course
Cops hang out at two locations around the Mill Valley golf course – heading East parked under a tree right before the golf course, and heading West parked in the decrepit store that says "Atkins Farm" on the sign. The speed limit in this area varies rapidly, quickly dropping from 45mph to 35 right at the speed trap. I got a written warning after I told the cop honestly that I thought I was driving 50-55 in a 45 zone.

State Route 9 near Roadside Diner
The posted speed on the Route 9 stretch through Belchertown quickly varies from 35-40-45-35 again etc. The police car backs into the parking lot of the diner, unseen until you pass them. I was "caught" @ 5:45 a.m. when only one other car was on the road, so they are there at any time and do write a ticket, not a warning.
Rt. 181 (Mass Pike Palmer exit to UMass)
All along Rt. 181 (and Rt. 9). Keep speed down any time after dark. A cruiser will be moving, maybe with other cars. After dark you WILL NOT see it coming. A triggered unit will be used for an instant, thus there will be no warning.
