Leverett, Massachusetts Speed Traps
This road connects the towns Leverett and Shutesbury, and heads east to Route 202. There are cops here often hidden on sides of the road on the long two-lane stretch (one lane in each direction), just waiting for people to get caught with all the hills. Be sure to go no more than 30 in some places so you don’t get caught by their shenanigans.
The road in front of the church in Leverett center is manned on Sundays during services. To the north a ways, the elementary school and the police station are next door to one another. The school speed limit is 20 mph and you can count on an officer waiting there when class is getting in and out for the day. Every day, police drive this entire stretch and going more than 4 mph over the limit will draw their close attention.
Beginning at the Leverett Food Coop and proceeding toward Montague (or the reverse). This is an abusive speed trap as the road is lightly traveled and, other than in icy conditions, quite safe. It’s easy to exceed the speed limit without knowing it. Best to pay attention to the changes in speed limit postings.
At the Bridge on Rt 63, there is a small dirt access road where the police like to sit. The speed limit drops by 5mph for less than 1/4 mile. Beware, they catch a lot of people there. Also, FYI, speed drop not legal if you do get caught do.
Police sits in a driveway tucked down next to the rail road bridge. If you are coming south on 63 you can not possibly see him. Speed drops from 50 to 45 for a short stretch (1/4 mile)going uphill just before the Bridge. Coming North he is barley visible.Speed drops from 50 to 45 just before you get to the bridge. Bridge appears as a small hill. Police are there often.
