Lowell, Massachusetts Speed Traps
LPD will sit at several locations on the blvd under the rotary or in the parking lot just before dunkin dounuts on the westbound side. They catch traffic coming westbound from Dracut coming around a curve. Speed limit is 35 Most traffic is going faster than that. This is an area that has had lots (many fatal) of accidents over the years.
A Lowell police officer usually pulls his/her cruiser off the road, hiding behind the guardrail, just before exit 4. The connector slopes up and then slopes down – the cruiser is usually in the middle of the slope down hiding. The officer stands outside and RADAR/LIDAR oncomming cars as they come over the hill and dont have enough reaction time to slow down. In the day, the officer directs them to pull over. At night, his partner will fly up after you and pull you over. The speed limit is 55mph however must people do about 65-70. Also state police sit on the roads with their lights off (at night). Usually an imapala, ford contour or a unmarked unit. Also, state and local police drive up and down the connector routinely because of the recent deaths caused by speed.
State Route 110 near directly after the traffic light between the Lowell rotary and the Methuen rotary
I usually don’t see too many cops on 110 between the methuen and lowell roteries, however i have seen cops hiding directly after the traffic light (the only one between methuen and lowell on 110).
Lowells Traffic units do all the Targeting so if you see a car if it says traffic Enforcement watch out.
The stretch of VFW highway off Aiken street going towards the boulevard. There’s a little nitch at at a little parking area at U-mass lowell. You can’t even see the cop until you come around the gradual corner, by the time you see him he’s already got you. There’s usually two cops in the car, one standing outside with the gun and one in the car writing the ticket. Look ahead coming down the stretch, they will often times pull over 5-6 cars at a time.
