Interstate 69 near Exit Number 145

Davison, MichiganApr 25, 20060 Comments

Davison Township Police can frequently be found in the median using their laser. The median is bare (i.e., no trees or shrubbery). I-69 runs east-west thru this area and a common tactic employed is to use the sun (AM or PM) when it’s low in the sky to blind oncoming drivers to their patrol cars (silver Crown Vics as of this writing). The area patrolled is about 6 miles long (the width of the township) stretching from about mile marker 142 to 148 – it ends on the east at the Lapeer County line. Police have been seen sitting right on the county line shining cars while they’re still in Lapeer County and pulling them over after they have slowed down and entered the township (located in Genesee County). A favorite tactic is to hide behind the Oak Road overpass support (about two miles east of M-15 [exit 145]) while using their laser. It’s not real common for township police in Michigan to enforce on interstates running thru their jurisdictions – speedtrap appears to be a revenue generation tool instead of a safety enhancer – Davison Twp. residents would be better served if police time was spend doing neighborhood patrols.
