Detroit, Michigan Speed Traps
I75 Service Drive North between Holbrook & Caniff
I received a 45 in the 25 speed limit section of the I-75 service drive that enters Hamtramck city limits. This area is characterized by a 3 lane drive that descends down to the expressway level where there were some earlier preparations to create an entrance ramp, so if you don’t brake you will accelerate even when coasting if you aren’t paying attention. There are no entrances or drives thru here and the police wait just beyond an overpass there where they can laser you just as you hit the bottom.
When I went to “court” none of the speeding ticket holders actually saw a Judge. We all were allowed to make a deal with Police officers in little rooms where we paid for an “Obstructing Traffic” ticket if we cooperated. We pay a $150 fine, get no points, I even kept my original ticket.
Southbound Woodward Ave.Pass 6 Mile Rd.
Entering Highland Park, unmarked police sits on parking lot facing traffic !!!!
Vassar Road bet. Lodge service drive & Outer Drive
Cops love to sit on Strathmoor to catch WB traffic on Vassar. Speed limit is an artificially low 25mph. They also sit close to Outer Dr to catch EB traffic as well. Usually a white traffic police radar unit, single cop. This tends to be seasonal. You can usually see them if you’re observant.
75 north at Livernois just before the exits to the Ambassado
Sherrif Deputy sets up between cones along right lane. Anyone speeding in right lane is cooked. All others are given a pass.
Mack Avenue at St.Jean
On Mack Avenue between St.Jean and Conner is a railroad bridge.Detroit police in the white traffic cop cars catch speeders coming Westbound on Mack. They sit in the party store parking lot across St.Jean with the laser gun pointed up the bridge and catch speeders coming down the hill. The speed limit on Mack is 30MPH.Usually they are out on the weekends doing this as I have seen them doing it on Sundays.
