Dewitt, Michigan Speed Traps

If your driving south-bound on US-27 towards DeWitt, the speed limit changes just before Dill Rd from 55 to 50. Last week I was traveling through en-route to work, I was in the out-side lane and there was a vehicle in front of me, and a vehicle passing me in the in-side lane, over a mile later I was pulled over at Herbison Rd for speeding. He actually ticketed me for 55/50. Normally they sit in a private drive just past Soldan’s Feed and Supplies with a laser, but I didn’t see a vehicle parked there, besides somebody else was leading traffic so what did I have to worry about, right? Over a mile later He pulls me over, what? a "delayed reaction", the car in front of me or the car beside me should have gotten the ticket. How pathetic !

Speeding anywhere in DeWitt will generally land you in trouble. It’s a weathly area with a financially well-endowed police department. Be warned.

The biggest speed trap is on S. Bridge St going towards or from Main St. The speed limit is 25mph here, but the tricky part is that the road dips down substantially, causing you to gain 5-10mph with your foot completely off the accelerator. I have to downshift or brake all the way down the hill in order to stay below 30mph here. Cops like to watch from the park on the east side of the road or in the parking lot on the west side. They don’t try to hide because by the time you’ve spotted them, you’re probably already going fast enough for a ticket.

Most of the streets in DeWitt are 25mph, but I always go 30 and haven’t gotten a ticket yet.

There was a marked DeWitt car sitting behind an underpass he clocked me 800 feet away from him going 86 with his laser. 16 over + previous record = ticket. I thought he would have a heart on easter, but i suppose i wouldnt be to happy either if i had to write tickets all day on easter. But he was just hiding behind the over pass in the median, didnt see him until well after he had my speed.

This trap has a speed decrease from 55 to 50. Everyone knows no one actually goes 55 so generally you get nabbed for 10 over as these DeWitt Township Police Officers sit along side of the road often.

Usually state police will sit on the south side of the viaduct and if you coming from the north are not paying attention, you can miss them.
