Niles, Michigan Speed Traps
Barron Lake Rd, anywhere between Huntly and M-60
Cass County Sheriff will sit anywhere within this stretch, usually at the church between it and the playground, the old Howard Township Police station, the old TV repair shop, or at the restaurant across from the fire department. This is probably the same officer/car mentioned in another post here as “trolling” on M-60 between US-12 and Barron Lake Rd.
The stretch of 933 between the stateline and downtown NIles.
Pretty much the entire stretch of 933 (old 31) between Downtown Niles and the State Line. Especially bad between Hwy 12 and the State Line- cars always pulled over by State Cops and County Sheriffs.
North 5th St at Wayne St
The city of Niles Police sit in the dirt parking lot of the old Forlers Donut Shop. They are hidden from view by the building and by bushes on the other side. Speed limit is 30 MPH through this area.
Lake Street from 13th street through 16th street
Several vacant factories hide local and state police cars. Drivers, especially heading west, are unable to see cars until too late. Cars coming over the viaduct near 13th street carry momentum into a 30 mph speed zone heading out of town.
Yankee street just off the M-60 bypass
Speed limit on bypass is 55, but as soon as you turn onto Yankee it becomes 50, and then quickly 45. You really have to slow down immediately after exiting the bypass in order to stay within the limit.
