Nunica, Michigan Speed Traps
On Maple Island, near the Muskegon County/Ottawa County bord
The unmarked Ottawa County Sheriffs like to sit on the east side of the road, on the Ottawa side near the Ottawa County/Muskegon County border. They are typically in an unmarked car, and it will look like a car is sitting back on the side of the road for sale (which there are a lot of them on this road). It is 55 through there, and they will get you for 1-2 over. Be careful. There is a 1-2 mile stretch, and they have several spots on both sides of the road.
HWY 96 At the Nunica Overpass
The weeds are too tall to see a black state car parked UNDER the overpass between the supports and the edge of the overpass. The officer stands outside of his car and radar traps, then relays info up to an unmarked or an SUV up near the next rest stop.
112th Street near State Road
The speed limit drops from 55 mph to 35 mph in aproximatly a half mile distance. As you head south on Maple Island Rd (also known as 112th St or Main St) just past State Rd is the Town Hall – the police love to sit there where you can’t see them until it’s too late. This is the area where the speed drops to 35 mph – and you aren’t even "in town" yet!
