Southfield Southbound Service Drive Expressway near Between 9 Mile & 8 1/2 Mile Roads

Southfield, MichiganAug 12, 20071 Comments

The speed limit is 30 MPH starting at 9 Mile and changes to 40 MPH just past the ‘crossover’ to 9 Mile for the northbound service drive side. The police cars sit on the southbound side streets clocking with a radar gun. The speed changes are not obvious the way the signs are posted. Once they run your plate, they will issue an ‘obstucting traffic’ administrative ticket to "help you avoid points on your license for insurance purposes." These tickets are for 100.00 and are non-contestable.

8 Mile Road near Southfield Freeway

Southfield, MichiganMar 29, 20070 Comments

Confusing stop signs past the intersection of Westhampton and the southbound Southfield Freeway about 500 feet north of 8 Mile Road. Stop signs in poor condition are past the intersection and there is no line across the road. This occurs 128 feet before traffic from the Southfield exit ramp merges into traffic from the service drive. Drivers are trying to look left and back to see traffic on the ramp, but also must look ahead because cars they are following may stop suddenly. Southfield police wait on Westhampton knowing that in their confusion many drivers will roll through this stop sign. The purpose of having the stop sign past the intersection is dubious.
