Southfield, Michigan Speed Traps

Look for the State police along the side of the freeway actually parked on the grass facing your and clocking your speed perfectly.

Usually most Sundays a Wayne county cop sits in parking lots on Oakland County side of 8 mile in Southfield; writes tickets for Wayne County, Redford jurisdiction. (Obviously more concerned with dollars than safety of his own county.) He (probably) naps and when his radar gun goes off he looks up and nabs the front vehicle whether they are the actual speeder or not. I was monitoring and setting my cruize contol for the posted speed when he claims that I was ‘clocked’ at 11 miles over. He actually stated at informal hearing that "…you were the front car, so you were the fastest and I got you". Magistrate didn’t have any problem with that logic! On to a formal hearing next.

Police will sit on Nadol usually in somebodys driveway and pick off people going south on Southfield. Speed limit is 35 but enforcement usually only occurs after 47.
