Tawas City, Michigan Speed Traps

Heading north on U.S. 23 just after the four-lane ends they sit there and wait. They get lots of people there because they are trying to pass everyone before the four-lane runs out

The speed limit is 55, If you are 60,or more on this lonely stretch, there are plenty of officers arround, sometimes you think your safe –but thier are three in a row!

Speed limit drops from 45 to 30 mph on the main thoroughfare through this small town in Northern Michigan. There are three police agencies who "cherry pick" along US-23 through Tawas City and East Tawas — Michigan State Police; Iosco County Sheriff; and, Tawas City Police

The trap is handled by the local Tawas Polic, Iosco County Sherrif and Michigan State Police and is heavily enforced. As you go north on US-23 at the Tawas City line, the speed limit drops from 55 to 45 to 35 between Townline Rd. and the Tawas River Bridge. Also going south out of town, the speed does not increase to 45 until about a mile south of the same Bridge and many motorists are picking up their speed too soon. The local constabulary thanks you for your financial contributions to the area as a tourist with a speeding ticket.
