Coon Rapids, Minnesota Speed Traps
Northdale Blvd NW / HWY 10 Bridge
Cop sits in the neighborhood and catches people who gain speed as the roll down the slope of the bridge.
Hanson between 242/Main St and 133rd Ave
Police frequently hide in various spots in this area about once every week or two. It’s extremely risky to speed in this area at any time of the day.
Another spot on Hanson that I’ve seen cops hiding is in the parking lot for Lions park (just north of HWY 10) trying to catch speeders going in both directions of Hanson, but that spot is used a lot less often than between 242 and 133rd.
HWY 10 westbound at Foley
Today, they had a cop car sitting on top of the bridge for over 5 hours with about 5 or 6 cop cars sitting in the carpool lane on the on-ramp to go west on hwy 10. They were doing it around 10 am and they did it until the evening rush hour started. Since several other people have posted this same exact speed trap, it’s very clear that the police frequently use this trap.
An excellent trick that I noticed today is that when you go over the hill just before Foley, always look to see if there’s a vehicle parked in the middle of the bridge. If you see a vehicle parked there, don’t risk it and make sure you’re going the speed limit by the time you get to the bridge. I have a small car and I was very easily able to see a car parked on the bridge (which was the cop), and so if you always look for a car there, you won’t have to worry about whether or not there’s currently a speed trap there.
Another thing, they never do this speed trap when it’s dark out and they usually start it during the morning and go until the start of the evening rush hour.
